The Dutch Bach Society takes you from darkness to light in the time before Christmas. Bach's radiant Magnificat is heard next to Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's Magnificat. Two magnificent Christmas works by father and son. This program led by artistic director Johanna Soller unfolds from the smallest musical core: the unison Gregorian Ave maris stella. The dark atmosphere of this song transitions into the Sinfonia in D minor by Bach's eldest son Wilhelm Friedemann. A talented composer who never became very popular. How differently things went for Carl Philipp Emanuel, the most successful of all Bach children, who in the second half of the eighteenth century was known as 'the great Bach'. His Magnifcat, his first extensive vocal work, breathes the spirit of his father's Magnificat and Hohe Messe. At the same time it looks ahead to the music of Mozart, Beethoven and Haydn. In the monthly newsletter you can read all about the events, exhibitions and other recommendations for the coming period.
